LivestAQsens (PR FESR 21-27)

LivestAQsens - Smart monitoring self-calibrating Air Quality sensor network for livestock farming is a PR-FESR 2021-2027 project coordinated by LEAP Laboratorio Energia Ambiente Piacenza and implemented with the support of European funds from the Emilia-Romagna Region. LEAP Laboratorio Energia Ambiente Piacenza

Breeding activities represent a economically significant endeavor, constituting one of the main resources in the Emilia-Romagna region. However, they are also a significant source of ammonia emissions and, to a lesser extent, greenhouse gases, including methane. Businesses are increasingly implementing measures to reduce these emissions, not only to improve air quality and combat climate change but also for issues related to the health and well-being of animals. However, to achieve these goals, continuous and extensive monitoring of pollutants is essential. To this end, the LivestAQsens project aims to develop a prototype network of innovative semiconductor metal oxide sensors (known as MOX) for continuous monitoring of ammonia and methane levels in the air both inside and outside livestock farms. The use of machine learning algorithms in the LivestAQsens network will allow for calibration and compensation of the sensor to the actual conditions of the farms, an aspect often overlooked by commercial solutions for air quality monitoring but crucial for ensuring the reliability of results.

PROAMBIENTE, through the project, will develop and propose its own analytical platform consisting of second-level optical sensors (CH4 and NH3). Additionally, it will examine the behavior of MOX sensors, a technology that PROAMBIENTE finds extremely interesting.
